Sea Otters & Kelp Forests: Restoring Oregon’s Missing Link
Co-sponsored by Friends of Otter Rock Marine Reserve
Wednesday, June 3rd | 6-7:30pm

Their population loss due to the maritime fur trade resulted in a missing link in Oregon’s nearshore ecosystem. Marine biologist Chanel Hason examines the role of sea otters as keystone predators, highlighting the ripple effects they have on kelp forests and estuaries, and what their return could mean for Oregon’s biodiversity, fisheries, and coastal resilience.
